Australians Let Us BBQ! 52 Blessings - Week 4

Posted by Kay

Hoorah! It’s the Australia Day long weekend downunder and it’s time to celebrate anything and everything that’s great about Australia! I am extremely grateful to have been born here - we have so much that we take for granted. When I think of all the things I find fault with as a citizen, I can always think of examples where we would be a lot worse off. So get your fake flag tattoo on, crack a beer (or fizzy Australian made drink of some sort) and get some Australia pride happening! :D

No matter what shape your BBQ is in, how much gas you have left in the cylinder or whether you have to spend hours cleaning it or trying to start it - you must BBQ something! Personally we love our BBQ and cook everything on it, even some of the vegies. If it was possible to BBQ a salad, I’d probably do that too. Oh and if possible, generate a lot of smoke - it makes the flavoursome smell of the BBQ carry even further! :P

gotta have snags rules for Australia Day two eager pups

Yesterday we had prawns, onions, mushrooms, snags and lamb on the barbie - YUMMO! :D Oh I almost forgot - having a couple of eager, hungry canines around takes care of any leftover meat, not a problem! Although having two over for the day certainly made for WWIII erupting at times between the moggies and the dogs, not to mention the neighbours’ dogs who wanted in on the action as well. *hehe*

So on behalf of myself, the moggies and temporary doggie residents - Happy Australia Day weekend! Hope it’s been a good one, wherever you are!

New Year’s resolutions

Posted by Kay

Well hoorah we are finally at the end of 2007! I can’t say it’s been the best year but it’s by far not the worst either. I guess for me, it has just been a middle of the road year. On the bright side, I have finished a post-graduate qualification but on the low side, it hasn’t gotten me a new job as yet. I am neither happier or more miserable in my current job. I haven’t got a dog yet, but I adopted a beautiful little kitty called Rosie. I haven’t lost much weight but then I’ve not put any on. We haven’t finished putting the spa in but we did finish off the deck. So I guess the achievements cancel out the non-achievements leaving me with this resounding sense of…..ummm, I guess “blah” describes it quite adequately….about how this year has progressed. The weather this year for New Year’s Eve is pretty apt given how it has gone for me. It’s blowing a gale, overcast and raining in parts but like the light at the end of the tunnel, there is a patch of blue and the sun persists in peeping through. It gives me hope that maybe next year will be a better one for me.

No doubt NYE celebrations in south-east Queensland will be a bit subdued this year on account of the weather. Nevertheless, people will be making those New Years resolutions…..quitting smoking, losing weight, becoming more healthy and managing finances better being the more common ones I’ve heard thrown about recently. I was listening to an excerpt of Hamish & Andy this afternoon on the way home from work - they have a different idea of a New Years resolution. They reckon people always want to quit something so why not start something instead and it might be more achievable. Personally I think the reasons why many people fail to keep their NY resolutions is because they have set too big a goal for themselves. So this year, I’m setting some bite-sized goals…..let’s see if that works any better shall we? :D
