Having fun with digiscrap

Posted by Kay

I’ve discovered that I’m not a very crafty person at all. I can’t sew more than a basic hem or bag, not to mention I don’t even own a sewing machine. I tried making soaps but they turned into a big congealed mass of goop that pretty much resembled a cow pat in every way except smell. For that reason, I’ve never tried making my own candles either. :P

I do like photography and fiddling on computers though, so it made sense to give digiscrap a try. I started doing a paper scrapbook for my mum’s 60th birthday - she’s 62 now and it’s still a work in progress so I guess you can figure out how well I did with that. I did like fiddling with the layouts and such but my main problem was that I tended to cut the photos out and such and then decide that it would have been nice to keep some of the background in as well. I know the whole saying about measuring twice and cutting once but I never seem to be able to do that. That’s the brilliant part about digiscrap - you can crop photos as much as you like, fiddle around, change your mind a billion times until you get something that you feel is just right. :D

I found a lovely free wallpaper from Digiscrap Depot and turned the photo I had of Mojo into a sepia and came up with this page. So what do you think? :)

man about the house

Yes I could have put up my own curtain rod and hung my own picture frames. But I’m grateful that the man about the house did it all for me, so that I didn’t have to. He’s a bit camera shy, so I had to get a little creative with this shot. :D

Too darn hot!!

It’s a sweltering one in Brisbane today…..the weather bureau forecasted 32 deg.C for a top in my area today. Considering it was 31 deg.C at 10am, there was never any doubt that it would climb higher towards the afternoon. We’re now sitting at 38 deg.C and not enjoying it in the slightest. The cats are both flaked out in their relative cool spots - one under the futon in the back room here and the other on the tiles out in the kitchen. They are being rather sensible.

I just went to make sure that the cat’s water bowl was full and found that the cats aren’t the only ones finding it a bit hot to cope with at the moment. There in the middle of their water bowl was a very large one of these. The biggest jolly black house spider I have ever seen, just swimming around in their water bowl! :o

Needless to say, I squealed like the girl I am and dropped the bowl. How it didn’t break, I have no idea. Did I take a photo, no I did not! I just wanted spider outside ASAP so the man of the house was kind enough to take care of it for me. Meanwhile, Mojo had come bolting in from the kitchen to see what the fuss is about and has spent the last ten minutes following me around. It seems he knows that when I squeal like that, it usually means there is something to play with - he’s probably wondering where he can find his latest toy. :o

No wonder he wasn’t very friendly…

52 Blessings - Week 7

When I first moved here, there were very few birds around the area which was hard to get used to - given that I grew up in an area where birds are prolific. Every morning I woke up to a mixture of kookaburras, lorrikeets and magpies. By contrast, the dawn chorus of the birdlife in our area was non-existent. Of course, this changed with the coming of the budgies and the peachfaces but I still missed the sound of the birds outside. After planting a few bottlebrush plants, some grevillea and lillie pillies around our property, the birds are slowly starting to return. Initially, it was just finches, doves and willy wag-tails but now we have a couple of resident magpies and a few lorrikeets which come round periodically to feed on the bottlebrush flowers. Even though we have the cat park on the same side as the bottlebrush plants, the birds don’t show any fear of them and happily browse while the cats have a snooze in the sunshine. :D
